BLACKPINK Release Music Videos for “Playing With Fire” + “Stay” for “Square Two”
Posted on 02 November 2016
YG Entertainment’s rookie girl group BLACKPINK is back! On November 1, BLACKPINK released not one – but two music videos, for their songs “Playing With Fire” and “Stay” - for their latest single album “Square Two”. BLACKPINK’s second single also includes “Whistle (Acoustic Ver.)” as a bonus track.
It’s only been three months since BLACKPINK’s debut, and already they’ve made their first ever comeback this week – with double title tracks just like last time. As of this writing, BLACKPINK’s two music videos combined have surpassed 11 million videos on YouTube. Both songs’ compositions and lyrics were written by YG’s resident producer Teddy Park, who was also responsible for 2NE1’s successful debut and hit songs from back in 2009.
BLACKPINK’s appearance on the stage this year was one of the most highly anticipated girl group debuts ever – for close to four years, from the initial announcement in 2012 to their debut in August 2016. Back in 2012, YG shared that they were planning on debuting a new girl group – popularly known then as YG SNSD. Jennie Kim was the first member to make a public appearance, starring as G-Dragon’s love interest in his music video for “That XX”, released in September 2012.
Last summer, the long-awaited debut of YG’s upcoming girl group finally became a reality. YG confirmed last June that their new girl group will be named BLACKPINK, following the announcement of all four members: Jennie Kim, who grew up and studied in New Zealand; Lisa, YG’s first non-Korean artist from Thailand; Jisoo, a YG trainee since 2011; and Korean-Australian member Rose. BLACKPINK debuted last August 8, with their first single “Square One”, and two music videos for “Whistle” and “Boombayah”.
